Finding The Right Tires For You

Tuesday, August 15th, 2017

A common rule of thumb is to never go cheap with shoes, as an uncomfortable pair will make your life miserable. Our CardinaleWay Acura dealership feels the same way about the “shoes” of your vehicle—the tires! Our Las Vegas dealership wants to help you find the perfect tires for you so that you won’t ever cause damage to your car.

All-Season Tires

These are likely the most common and easily the most flexible tires for all four seasons. Deciding between winter tires versus summer tires is a decision that you will have to make. A lot will obviously depend on your area’s weather conditions. Choosing tires with that mindframe will help your vehicle stay healthy.

Winter Tires

Winter tires are shaped a bit differently, as the tread compound is crafted to remain pliable in temperatures below 45 degrees. This feature teams up with widened grooves to give you good grip in slippery conditions. Drivers with rear-wheel drive should think about getting winter tires.

All-Terrain Tires

These tires are made for pickups and SUVs and can be a good choice for each. These kinds of tires give you the option of going off road for camping, hunting and more. The reason they work off road is because there is more space in the traction lugs and grooves of the tread, allowing you to go across rough terrain safely. These tires can also be useful for those who spend most of their time on the highway, as well.

Run-Flat Tires

These are the perfect tires for those who don’t want to carry that spare tire around with them. They are engineered to roll on low tire pressure to ensure safety when the tire is flat. They have a reinforced sidewall that allows it to support the weight of the vehicle without damaging anything else.

Sport Performance Tires

For those who want to maximize the driving experience and bring the ‘racer’ out of their vehicles, these are for you. These tires for speed and precision will respond to your every move and make even the most routine drives a blast.

Hot Weather Automotive Tips: Las Vegas

Wednesday, March 15th, 2017

Hot weather will be in Las Vegas before you know it. At CardinaleWay Acura, we want to make sure you, your vehicle and your passengers are safe and comfortable in the warmer months.  Here are just a few tips that can help.

Don’t Leave Children Or Pets in Your Car

We know sometimes it’s tempting to leave them there for just a minute as you run in to buy milk or go to the bathroom.  As inconvenient and frustrating as it can be, you simply shouldn’t leave your children or your pets in the car.  The outside heat can turn a car into an oven within minutes—even if you leave a window open slightly.  It doesn’t significantly slow down the heating process.  When it’s 90 degrees outside, the inside of you car can easily reach temperatures of 109 degrees in just 10 minutes.  In 90 minutes it can be 140 degrees!  When it’s only 72 degrees outside, the inside temperature can soar to 117 degrees in just an hour.  It’s simply not worth the risk.  Think, “Look before you lock,” and keep your family and pets safe.

Check Your Tires

When the weather changes, it affects the air pressure in your tires. If your tires are underinflated and you’re driving on hot roadways in hot weather, your tires can break down and there’s a greater likelihood for tire failure.  Be sure to follow the recommended tire pressure in pounds-per-square-inch (PSI) for your Acura.  You can find the recommendation inside the car door or your Owner’s Manual.  You can also keep a tire pressure gauge in your Acura to make sure they are inflated correctly.  You should also make sure the tread on your tires is safe and not worn.

Check Your Systems

Higher temperatures are hard on operating systems like air conditioning, batteries and radiators.  It’s a smart idea to get your air conditioner serviced each year before the hot weather hits.  In addition, excessive heat can shorten your battery’s life.  Extreme heat causes your battery’s fluids to evaporate, which can damage the internal structure of your battery.  If you have a battery that needs to be topped off, check it regularly and refill it as needed with distilled water.  Make sure your connections are clean, tight and corrosion free.  You can also bring your Acura to #CardinaleWayAcuraLasVegas and have our service experts take a look at your battery.  When it starts to heat up outside, it’s also a good time to check the level and condition of your coolant.  And remember, your coolant should be flushed and refilled every two years.
