Five Signs You Need New Brake Pads

Wednesday, June 21st, 2017

It’s easy to forget about your brakes until something goes wrong. This is a big mistake! Your CardinaleWay Acura Las Vegas dealership wants to keep you safe. We encourage you to have your brakes inspected as part of your normal maintenance routine. Our factory-trained Honda technicians are always ready to help you take care of your Acura. Acura is owned by #Honda. It’s easy to call or schedule an appointment online.

The Braking System
The braking system consists of a complex network of parts. To keep this system working properly, certain parts must be replaced regularly. Generally, the part most often replaced are the brake pads since they encounter the most wear when braking. Since they experience a lot of friction, they do wear down over time. If the pads get too thin, your brakes won’t work as effectively as they should.

Five Red Flags That Your Brake Pads Need Replacing
1. When driving do you hear a faint scraping, squealing or buzzing sound that disappears when you hit the brakes? The noises you hear are actually the wear indicators. These are metal tabs located near the top of the brake pads. The grating sound is a warning that your pads are nearly worn down.
2. You hear a clicking noise when the brake pedal is pushed or released. This also indicates wear.
3. Braking takes more time than usual. This is known as “brake fade,” and is caused by applying the brakes over a long distance without bringing the car to a full stop. This causes the pads and rotors to heat up, which reduces the friction needed to stop quickly.
4. Your car pulls to one side when you brake. This means your brake pads have worn down at different rates. In addition to being unsafe, this puts unnecessary stress on the steering rack, ball joints and wheel bearings.
5. The brake pedal vibrates when pressed. This happens if the pads have become overheated. A pulsating brake pedal means the brakes are unreliable and need to be fixed immediately!

Award-Winning Honda Environmental Film Series Features Film On Saving Sea Turtle Habitat in South Carolina

Wednesday, May 31st, 2017

Honda’s new film, “Generations: Sea Turtle Patrol of Edisto Beach State Park, SC,” explores the threats facing loggerhead sea turtles and the efforts of a committed group of state rangers, marine biologists and volunteers to protect critical sea turtle nesting habitat at Edisto Beach State Park. CardinaleWay Acura Las Vegas is proud to be part of a company that supports initiatives like these. #Acura is owned by Honda.

The Film
The film documents the efforts of Edisto’s Sea Turtle Patrol, as they educate visitors, mark and protect nesting habitats and record inventories of the hundreds of nests along the shoreline. The film features footage of a 250-pound female turtle laying her eggs, the hundreds of baby turtles hatching after 55 days to embark on their journey to adulthood. The film educates viewers about the loggerhead’s life cycle and what they can do to help protect this species. Watch now: https://youtu.be/1G6uP2LDSwU

“While previous films in the Honda Environmental Series have highlighted remarkable initiatives dreamed up by Honda associates, we wanted to expand the series beyond Honda’s sustainability efforts,” said film series producer, Marcos Frommer of Honda North America, Inc. “Honda is proud to share the story behind Edisto’s Sea Turtle Patrol and support its efforts to increase sea turtle populations.”

Honda Donates Honda Pioneer 700 and Pioneer 1000 Vehicles
To support the conservation efforts, Honda donated its Honda Pioneer 700 and Pioneer 1000 side-by-side vehicles to Edisto Beach State Park. These vehicles enable state rangers to patrol long stretches of beach that serve as nesting habitat for loggerheads. The Pioneer 700 and 1000 are manufactured at Honda of South Carolina Mfg., Inc. (HSC) in Timmonsville, SC.

Why It’s Important To Keep Track of Tire Age

Wednesday, April 12th, 2017

Did you that tire age is even more important than tread depth? Our CardinaleWay Acura Las vegas dealership wants to make sure you keep track of your vehicle’s tire age, including the spare. Tires have the greatest effect on the way your vehicle handles and brakes. If the tire store recommends new tires at your five-year checkup, we recommend you spend the money and don’t put it off. You could save a life.

The Dangers of Buying Used Tires
In February 2008, the owner of a 1998 Ford Explorer in Georgia bought a used tire for his SUV. Two weeks later, the tread suddenly separated from the tire causing the Explorer to go out of control and hit a motorcycle, killing its rider. An post-crash analysis of the used tire showed that it was nearly 10 years old.

Why Old Tires Are Dangerous
For years, people have relied on a tire’s tread depth to determine the condition of the tires. But did you know the rubber compounds in a tire deteriorate with time, regardless of the condition of the tread? And an old tire poses a significant safety hazard.

Sean Kane, president of Safety Research & Strategies, Inc., says, “If you take a rubber band that’s been sitting around a long time and stretch it, you will start to see cracks in the rubber,” says Kane. That’s basically what happens to a tire. Over time, cracks in the rubber develop on the surface and inside the tire as well. This cracking can eventually cause the steel belts in the tread to separate from the rest of the tire.

For most people, old tires are not an issue. If you drive 12,000-15,000 miles annually, a tire’s tread will wear out in three to four years, well before the rubber compound does. But if you only drive 6,000 miles a year, or have a specialized car you only drive on weekends, aging tires could be an issue. The age warning also applies to spare tires and “new” tires that have never been used but are old.

How Long Does a Tire Last?
Tires need to be inspected annually after the fifth year. Many car manufacturers recommend replacing tires after five years. But, if you live in a warm or coastal climate, your tires will age more quickly, according to the NHTSA. This includes the spare, which could be ‘baked’ in the trunk of your vehicle.

Acura Vehicles Feature One Of A Kind Technology

Monday, August 15th, 2016

Acura ILX

Acura has been associated with the design, production and marketing of high performance vehicles in the US since the mid 1980s. It is a marquee of the Japanese multinational giant Honda Motor Company and it produces luxury brands for the mother company. It is the first Japanese luxury automobile company to have been created. Acura has been known as a pioneer in the automobile industry because of its use of new technologies in its cars.

Acura was the first to introduce the legendary VTEC engine in the North American market in its midrange exotic sports car NSX and it also beat its sibling Honda in mating a six speed manual transmission system to Honda’s Type II engine in its “legendary” sports coupe Acura Legend.

Acura introduced the trademarked SH-AWD which is an all wheel drive system with torque vectoring technology in the year 2005 in RL flagship model of the company. Acura RDX was the first Honda vehicle to introduce turbocharged engines in North America, instead of naturally aspirated engines. Acura has often used its unique and patented Jewel Eye LED headlamps on many of its recent models. A second generation of the NSX flagship from Acura was launched in the year 2015 and it features sport hybrid SH-AWD all wheel drive drivetrain and a nine-speed dual clutch mated with a twin-turbocharged engine. Acura has upgraded many of its current production models and has lavishly used its innovative technologies. RDX is one car which features most of its awesome technologies and is one of the most popular luxury compact SUVs in the US currently.

History of Acura – Part I

Monday, July 11th, 2016

Legend

Acura is Honda’s luxury car division, launched in the year 1986. It took Honda ten years of research and development to introduce to the world the first ever luxury automotive brand from Japan. The Legend and the Integra were the first Acura models to be launched in the US and Canada in 1986. Since then it has only been moving from strength to strength, garnering a respectable place in the luxury vehicles market worldwide. Acura started with 60 dealerships across North America.

In the first year itself, Acura sold 52,869 units. This success led to 90 additional dealerships applying to sell Acura vehicles. In 1987, just one year after its launch, the Acura Legend coupé was selected as the Import Car of the Year. The four-door luxury coupé was the first Acura vehicle to feature an airbag. Acura’s Integra also did well, having gotten featured in the Ten Best List for 1987. The Integra came in a three-door model as well as a five-door model and featured some cutting-edge technology for the time.

In the second year after launch, Acura sales doubled that of the first year’s, selling 109,470 units. By now, the network of dealerships had grown to over 200. So, by the end of 1987, Acura was the highest selling luxury import brand in the US. This led to Toyota and Nissan introducing their own luxury vehicle divisions as well, viz Lexus and Infiniti respectively. By 1993, the Legend was the best selling imported luxury car in the country for the sixth time in a row.

What is Acura and How is it Different from Honda?

Friday, May 27th, 2016

Acura 1

The concept of global innovation has been a rather tricky area to master, but the Japanese seem to have managed it seemingly effortlessly. Whatever the sector, Japan has proven to be a pioneer. Companies that originated from Japan have become world leaders in business, technology, automobiles, and communications.

One shining example of Japan’s superior workmanship is Honda. This automobile manufacturing company was first established in 1948 in Hamamatsu, Japan. Its headquarters now reside in Minato, Tokyo. A decade after its inception, Honda became the world’s largest manufacturer of motorcycles and it has remained so since then. It has also climbed the ranks and become the number one manufacturer of internal combustion engines, pushing out more than 14 million units every year. On a global scale, Honda was ranked the eighth largest vehicle manufacturer, standing only behind Peugeot Citroen, Toyota, Nissan, Ford, Hyundai, Volkswagen, and General Motors.

As Honda continued to grow, it achieved a great ranking in the automotive industry. To express its continuous dedication to innovation, Honda launched its very own luxury car marque called Acura in 1986. It was first established in the United States and Canada, and it was later introduced to various other countries. Acura holds the torch of being Japan’s first luxury vehicle brand. It markets luxury, high-performance vehicles that have taken the world by storm. The brand’s first vehicle, the Legend, proved to be such a success that rival brands like Nissan and Toyota also launched their own luxury divisions. With eye-catching models like the NSX, RSX, and TSX, Acura has certainly captured the attention of fans everywhere.
