Hot weather will be in Las Vegas before you know it. At CardinaleWay Acura, we want to make sure you, your vehicle and your passengers are safe and comfortable in the warmer months. Here are just a few tips that can help.
Don’t Leave Children Or Pets in Your Car
We know sometimes it’s tempting to leave them there for just a minute as you run in to buy milk or go to the bathroom. As inconvenient and frustrating as it can be, you simply shouldn’t leave your children or your pets in the car. The outside heat can turn a car into an oven within minutes—even if you leave a window open slightly. It doesn’t significantly slow down the heating process. When it’s 90 degrees outside, the inside of you car can easily reach temperatures of 109 degrees in just 10 minutes. In 90 minutes it can be 140 degrees! When it’s only 72 degrees outside, the inside temperature can soar to 117 degrees in just an hour. It’s simply not worth the risk. Think, “Look before you lock,” and keep your family and pets safe.
Check Your Tires
When the weather changes, it affects the air pressure in your tires. If your tires are underinflated and you’re driving on hot roadways in hot weather, your tires can break down and there’s a greater likelihood for tire failure. Be sure to follow the recommended tire pressure in pounds-per-square-inch (PSI) for your Acura. You can find the recommendation inside the car door or your Owner’s Manual. You can also keep a tire pressure gauge in your Acura to make sure they are inflated correctly. You should also make sure the tread on your tires is safe and not worn.
Check Your Systems
Higher temperatures are hard on operating systems like air conditioning, batteries and radiators. It’s a smart idea to get your air conditioner serviced each year before the hot weather hits. In addition, excessive heat can shorten your battery’s life. Extreme heat causes your battery’s fluids to evaporate, which can damage the internal structure of your battery. If you have a battery that needs to be topped off, check it regularly and refill it as needed with distilled water. Make sure your connections are clean, tight and corrosion free. You can also bring your Acura to #CardinaleWayAcuraLasVegas and have our service experts take a look at your battery. When it starts to heat up outside, it’s also a good time to check the level and condition of your coolant. And remember, your coolant should be flushed and refilled every two years.
