Under the hood of the 2017 Acura RDX lies a 3.5-liter i-VTEC V-6 engine mated to six-speed sequential automatic gearbox that generates an output of 279 horsepower and 252 pound-feet of torque. With the enhanced Variable Cylinder Management (VCM) system, the engine under the hood of the front-wheel drive RDX model has an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 20 MPG city and 28 MPG highway. The AWD model has an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 19 MPG city and 27 MPG highway. Highway fuel efficiency is optimized when the engine and VCM work together to shut off the cylinders when the vehicle is traveling at cruising speeds. In order to save weight, the engine is comprised of aluminum and the camshaft is hollow. Lastly, the throttle is smooth and responsive in many driving situations thanks to the Drive-by-Wire throttle system.
