RealTime Racing Acura NSX GT3 Gets SprintX Top 10 in Pirelli World Challenge

Thursday, June 22nd, 2017

The Acura NSX GT3s of RealTime Racing continues to excel in the early-season series in the Pirelli World Challenge competition. The team of Peter Kox and Mark Wilkins earned their first top-10 result in SprintX competition in a packed field. If you’d like to experience some racing adrenaline, take the 2017 NSX out for a test drive. Our CardinaleWay Acura Las Vegas dealership is conveniently located on West Sahara Avenue. We have an extensive selection of Acura new cars.

Race Results
The team of Peter Kox and Mark Wilkins made up six positions in a heavily-packed field, placing ninth in the first of two PWC SprintX races at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park. The second race was cancelled due to excessive rain that caused flooding on the track.
Wilkins was able to take the #93 Acura NSX GT3 from the 15th spot to 12th position before handing off to Kox. Kox was able to gain three more positions to claim a ninth-place finish.
“The driver change was perfect,” Kox said. “We decided to leave Mark in for a little longer before making the stop. Our strategy played well because we had a few laps of clear air. I think we also made up three positions on our pit stop. We had no problems.”
The new format of the 2017 PWC now factors in regular pit stops and drive changes. In prior GT races, regular pit stops, let alone stops for driver changes, were not accounted for. The Acura squad has avoided pitfalls through the early season and used the stops to its advantage.

The Acura NSX GT3 racecar uses the same lightweight multi-material body as the production NSX. The 3.5-liter, twin-turbocharged DOHC V-6 engine also uses the same design specs as the production #2017AcuraNSX, including the heads, block, valve train, crankshaft, pistons and dry-sump lubrication system. The Acura NSX is produced at the Performance Manufacturing Center in Ohio.

Acura NSX GT3 Places Eighth In Sebring Endurance Race

Thursday, April 6th, 2017

CardinaleWay Acura congratulates Acura Motorsports and Michael Shank Racing (MSR) for their success in bringing the team’s two Acura NSX GT3s to the finish line in the 65th running of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship 12-hour endurance race.

The Acura Team
The MSR Acura team finished eighth in this difficult 12 hour endurance race around the very bumpy and demanding 3.7-mile Sebring circuit, built on the grounds of a former World War II Air Force training base. The #86 entry of Tom Dyer, Oswaldo “Ozz” Negri Jr. and Jeff Segal finished eighth in the GTD class after managing to stretch the fuel mileage of their NSX GT3 to the maximum in the final hours.

The sister #93 NSX GT3 driven by Andy Lally, Katherine Legge and Mark Wilkins was as high as second in the opening hour and was fourth in class after four hours. But shortly after the five-hour mark, a suspension issue sent the car to the pits where a left-front shock absorber was replaced. This cost the team eight laps. Back on track, they drove competitively to the finish, but couldn’t make up the lost laps, so finished 14th in GTD.

Competitors
Competing in the GTD class of the sports car racing championship, the NSX GT3s race against premium automotive brands including Aston Martin, Audi, BMW, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz and Porsche.

The Acura NSX GT3
Developed from the commercial production Acura NSX, the NSX GT3 race car model uses the same ultra-rigid,lightweight multi-material NSX body with an aluminum-intensive space frame. The 3.5-liter racing engine uses the same design specifications as the production Acura NSX. A six-speed, sequential-shift racing gearbox delivers power to the rear wheels.

Acura Sports Car Racing
The #AcuraNSXGT3 is the most recent in a rich legacy of Acura sports car racing championships, including the 1991, 1992 and 1993 IMSA Camel Lights manufacturer and driver championships, and the 2009 American Le Mans Series manufacturer, driver and team championships in both the LMP1 and LMP2 classes.

Steve Eriksen (Vice President and COO, Honda Performance Development): “All things considered, this was another step forward for the NSX GT3 program. Both #MichaelShankRacing Acuras got to the finish at a notoriously tough track, as evidenced by the attrition throughout the field. The eighth-place finish for the #86 car keeps Acura well in contention for the North American Endurance Championship.” Ozz Negri (Driver, Michael Shank Racing #86 Acura NSX GT3): “Sebring is the toughest track and our Acura NSX passed the test.”

Acura NSX GT3 Takes on Tough Competition in Endurance Contest

Monday, December 5th, 2016

Acura NSX

Out on the street, Acura is noted for, among other assets, its design, safety and performance. Our customers at CardinaleWay Acura are familiar with the features that distinguish Acura’s full line of vehicles. Now, to kick off the 2017 racing season, a special-edition Acura NSX GT3 will go head-to-head against a line-up of other prestigious vehicles on the track. Acura will field two teams, each with a pair of the high-performance vehicles, at the 2017 IMS WeatherTech SportsCar Championship for the Tequila Patron North American Endurance Championship. The newly launched Acura Motorsports program has named some of the top teams and drivers on the racing circuit to pilot this sleek, precision-engineered power plant.

Among the defining features of the 2017 NSX is a Sport Hybrid Super Handling All-Wheel Drive power unit – an engineering achievement that stands alone against the competition. Its engine is a 75-degree, 3.5-liter, twin-turbocharged DOHC V-6 dynamo. Many of the GT3’s features meet the same specs of those in the 2017 Acura NSX V6 hybrid production model, including its V-6 hybrid engine with three electric motors; its lightweight, ultra-rigid body; valvetrain, pistons and dry-sump lubrication system.

NSX GT3

In November, the Acura NSX GT3 began two days of preseason testing to prepare for the January 2017 season. The Acura Motorsports team was one of eight other teams to practice on the track at the Daytona International Speedway. Acura’s competition in January includes an elite roster of racing vehicles: Lexus RCF GT3; Porsche 911 GT3 R; Mercedes AMG GT3; Audi R8 LMS GT3; and Lamborghini Huracan GT3.

The #AcuraNSXGT3 is ready for an intense endurance contest. In the meantime, you can get behind the wheel of the 2017 Acura NSX hybrid, our next-generation supercar, which, according to the experts, redefines the sportscar driving experience. Visit our website at www.CardinaleWayAcura.

Acura Surprises Public with NSX GT3 Test Drive

Friday, September 2nd, 2016

Acura continues to excite consumers with its new NSX GT3. Their program is currently on schedule to include the new vehicle in North American Racing in 2017. The vehicle made its public test debut July 28 at Pirelli World Challenge practice sessions in Lexington, Ohio. The test course was 2.25 miles and had 14 turns. A representative from Honda Performance Development said that after a number of successful tests, they believed it was time to test the new NSX GT3 on a race course against its competition. They believed the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course was a perfect opportunity.

The new Acura NSX GT3 is scheduled for homologation as a FIA GT3-class race car fall of 2016. RealTime Racing is Acura’s development partner for the current GT3 program. The Acura NSX GT3 has several custom components, including its carbon fiber bodywork. The NSX has a 3.5-liter twin turbocharged DOHC V-6 engine.

Acura continues to pursue its GT motorsports program with its partner Realtime racing. They are currently finalizing the homologation of its FIA GT3. Their efforts also include two other Acura TLX GT vehicles they campaigned at the Pirelli World Challenge.

As Acura continues to pursue the production of supercars, their customers can expect their research to influence the other vehicles they manufacture. They seek to engineer the best vehicles both for the racetrack and the high way. To view the latest vehicles Acura has to offer, visit CardinaleWay Acura.

Why Does Acura NSX GT3 Race Car Constitute a Unique Class in its Own Right?-III

Friday, July 8th, 2016

NSX GT3

Acura NSX was Acura’s flagship high performance car for over a decade. It was discontinued in 2005 due to rising costs and crumbling market share when more economical options came up. The new generation NSX has only recently made a comeback after an almost 12 year hiatus. Looking at the demand for the car, Honda/Acura has also recently unveiled a GT3 racing version which could have a price in excess of $400000 as it is competing with the likes of the Porsche 911 GT3R, Audi R8GT3 and the McLaren 650SGT3.

Powertrain and Performance

The NSX is a stocky car weighing almost 3800-pounds. The 3.5 liter dual-turbo charged, AWD V6 with DOHC, mid-mounted engine can produce 500bhp power and 406 ft-lb of torque. It is also mated with a 9-speed dual-clutch transmission. With assistance of three electric motors, the engine can produce 573bhp power and 476 ft-lb of torque. The torque peaks at about 2000 rpm. The front wheels are guided by individual electric motors which allow them to negotiate turns with supreme confidence. The third electric motor is placed on the crankshaft to supplement torque at low revs when the turbo is still gearing up and also to make the gear changes effortless. The car is expected to make hit 0-60mph in about 3.0 seconds and also has a projected top speed of 191 mph.

Interior

The interior of a GT3 has been custom-built for the racetracks. The GT3 has a pronounced roll cage and a carbon fiber driver seat with stitched GT3 initials. There is a flat-bottom steering wheel in front of a driver information display screen. A number of controls are mounted on the steering. There is a touchscreen on the center shaft for more information along with the AC vents at the top. In place of OBE, the GT3 sports a number of essential buttons. The cabin except the driver seat is probably made of carbon fiber for weight reduction.

Why Does Acura NSX GT3 Race Car Constitute a Unique Class in its Own Right?-II

Wednesday, July 6th, 2016

NSX GT3

Acura NSX GT3 is gearing up for debuting at one of the FIA designated races later this year. Although it shares some commonality with the production car, the factory car still has a lot of features which set them apart. Let us look at some of the features of the car.

Although the factory version and its road sibling share much of the overall body trims and styling, a much taller aim dam seats on the front fascia of the GT3. It also flaunts a bigger air vent in the front than a regular NSX because a race car requires much faster and powerful engine cooling. The precision crafted grille is however same as the NSX. The most stunning feature of the NSX GT3 front fascia is the front spoiler that seats quite low and protrudes out several inches from the front fascia giving a distinct feeling of depth to the fascia. It also improves stability of the car when zipping at high speeds due to consistent downforce on the front axle.

For a car with a 6-figure price tag, the NSX doesn’t provide many of the modern safety features like blind spot detection, front collision warning and mitigation, emergency braking assistance or lane keeping assist. It only offers standard airbags, rearview camera, parking sensors and the AcuraLink safety assistance system. It can be expected that the NSX GTR would most definitely not offer many of these safety features as is the convention for track cars. It however, has a body roll cage and a special bucket seat for the driver to reduce collision impact and keep the driver safe.

NSX GT3 Racecar Revealed at New York International Auto Show

Friday, March 25th, 2016

acura-motorsports-nsx-gt3

Acura has unveiled its NSX GT3 racecar at this year’s New York International Auto Show. The racecar features an underbody diffuser, large deck wing spoiler, and hood vents that have been enlarged to optimize engine cooling. Under the hood lies a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter DOHC V-6 engine mated to a six-speed sequential transmission. The engine features the same design specs as the unit that will be powering the 2017 Acura NSX supercar. Similar to the production NSX, the NSX GT3 will receive an ultra-rigid lightweight body along with an aluminum-intensive frame. The body, frame, and engine will be built at the Performance Manufacturing Center in Ohio. President of Honda Performance Development Art St. Cyr stated, “The NSX was designed as a pinnacle expression of Acura Precision Crafted Performance, and we’re looking forward to proving out its ultimate performance capabilities in GT3 racing.” CardinaleWay Acura in Las Vegas is ready to see the NSX GT3 racecar in action.
