100,000+ Acura Vehicles on the Road Now Feature AcuraWatch Advanced Safety and Driver-Assist Technologies

Wednesday, April 26th, 2017

AcuraWatch safety features are now available on all Acura sedans and SUVs. At CardinaleWay Acura Las Vegas, your safety is important. Our sales team looks forward to introducing you to these exciting safety features.

New Features Planned
Acura will be adding a new Traffic Jam Assist technology later this year. With Traffic Jam Assist, vehicles will be able to come to a complete stop and accelerate again at the speed of traffic without any driver input. Traffic Jam Assist will also steer the vehicle within certain conditions. Traffic Jam Assist has sensors and the functionality of adaptive cruise control with low speed follow and lane keeping assist, extended by adding electromechanical steering. Traffic Jam Assist works with a mid-range radar sensor, long-range radar sensor, multi-purpose camera and stereo video camera.

“We are working toward a zero-collision society, and this approach is resonating strongly with younger luxury customers who show increasing interest in safety technologies,” said Jon Ikeda, vice president & general manager of Acura. “Deploying active safety and driver-assistive technology broadly is one way we are taking care of our customers and differentiating Acura.”

How AcuraWatch Works
AcuraWatch uses advanced “sensor fusion” technology, with the combined sensing capabilities of millimeter-wave radar and a monocular camera. These devices help maintain the vehicle’s position in traffic. They also can prevent or mitigate the severity of a collision.

AcuraWatch was introduced to the Acura lineup in 2014 on the 2015 Acura TLX, and is now on all core Acura models. AcuraWatch is offered as standard equipment on all 2017 MDX and 2017 RLX models, and is available on all 2017 Acura sedans and SUVs.

What Does The Check Engine Light Mean?

Tuesday, April 25th, 2017

When you see the Check Engine light come on, we hope you’ll bring your Acura to our CardinaleWay Acura Las Vegas dealership in Las Vegas as soon as possible. Our factory-trained #technicians can run the diagnostic tests and check for the code that provides the specific reason why the Check Engine light has come on. Here are the top five reasons you might see that warning light.

Spark Plugs

The Check Engine light can come on for as simple a reason as your vehicle’s spark plugs aren’t sparking properly. It’s recommended that spark plugs be replaced approximately every 25,000 miles before they fail. A simple diagnostic test can determine if the spark plugs are the reason the Check Engine warning light has come on. Our CardinaleWay Acura service technicians can replace your spark plugs and reset your vehicle’s computer.

 –

Loose-Fitting Gas Cap

Another easy-to-fix cause for the Check Engine light to come on is a poor seal on your gas cap that lets vapors escape. Be sure you tighten the gas cap every time you fill up. But, even if you suspect the gas cap might be the cause, re-tightening the gas cap might not be enough to make the Check Engine light go off. It’s easy to schedule an appointment with our CardinaleWay Acura technicians, so we encourage you to come in as soon as you see the Check Engine Light come on.

Mass Airflow Sensor

The Check Engine light will also come on if your mass airflow sensor fails.  This is more likely to happen if your air filter has not been replaced regularly. If you keep driving your vehicle with the Check Engine light on and the airflow sensor is failing, you will create more problems such as a drop in gas mileage, increase in emissions and possible stalling. Don’t wait! Bring your vehicle to our Service department for a check-up.

Oxygen Sensor

A faulty oxygen sensor is another cause for the Check Engine to come on. If this is the reason, it’s important to replace the oxygen sensor immediately before it damages your vehicle’s catalytic converter.

Catalytic Converter

The very worst case scenario is when the Check Engine light indicates problems with your catalytic converter. If the catalytic converter needs replacing, the best place to have it done is at CardinaleWay Acura.  We use only factory parts and will have your vehicle up and running in no time

When Your Check Engine Light Comes On, Come See Us

When your Check Engine light comes on, don’t second-guess or procrastinate.  Make an appointment right away with our Service department at CardinaleWay Acura Las Vegas. Our Service technicians will run diagnostic tests and tell you why your vehicle’s Check Engine light is on. If your vehicle needs to be serviced, we would be honored to take care of it for you. It’s easy to schedule a service appointment by phone or online. Acura is owned by Honda and we are proud to feature the entire line of Acura new cars. Where to Have Fun With Your Dog in Las Vegas

Monday, April 17th, 2017

At CardinaleWay Acura Las Vegas, our staff knows how much dogs have become family members these days. It’s nearly impossible to leave home without them. Did you know there are over 35 dog-friendly activities in Las Vegas? Here are just a few of our favorites, in no particular order.

Desert Breeze Dog Park offers fully-fenced separate areas for small dogs (35 lbs or less) and large dogs (over 35 lbs). There are also tables, benches and chairs for people to sit and relax while your pup burns off energy. A hose and doggie bags are also available inside the park. Other similarly-equipped dog parks in the area include: Woofter Dog Park and Barkin’ Basin Dog Park at Wayne Bunker Park

Go for A Hike at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. It’s less than a 30-minute drive from the Strip in Las Vegas to this stunning natural area. Pets are allowed on trails in Red Rock Canyon, but need to be kept on a leash. Owners are required to clean up after their dogs. Poop bags are available in the campground and at the Scenic Drive fee station. In the campground, pets must be leashed at all times. Pets must also be leashed at other developed facilities such as the visitor center, Willow Springs picnic area, and Red Rock overlook. Make sure to bring plenty of water for your dog and never ever leave them in the car, due to the extreme temperatures in the Canyon.

Echo Basin  – Fossil Ridge Loop
Blue Diamond Hill is across from the main part of Red Rock Canyon and offers some great hiking trails. Many of these trails were created by mountain bikers and some were created by the horseback riding concession that operates near the trailhead. Parking for this hike is along SR 159 just outside the entrance to the horseback riding road. Again, keep your dog leashed and bring plenty of water.

The Acura Design Studio in Torrance, California is responsible for the design of the 2018 TLX five-passenger performance sedan. It is being produced in the U.S. at Acura’s Marysville Auto Plant in Ohio with domestic and globally sourced parts.

Why It’s Important To Keep Track of Tire Age

Wednesday, April 12th, 2017

Did you that tire age is even more important than tread depth? Our CardinaleWay Acura Las vegas dealership wants to make sure you keep track of your vehicle’s tire age, including the spare. Tires have the greatest effect on the way your vehicle handles and brakes. If the tire store recommends new tires at your five-year checkup, we recommend you spend the money and don’t put it off. You could save a life.

The Dangers of Buying Used Tires
In February 2008, the owner of a 1998 Ford Explorer in Georgia bought a used tire for his SUV. Two weeks later, the tread suddenly separated from the tire causing the Explorer to go out of control and hit a motorcycle, killing its rider. An post-crash analysis of the used tire showed that it was nearly 10 years old.

Why Old Tires Are Dangerous
For years, people have relied on a tire’s tread depth to determine the condition of the tires. But did you know the rubber compounds in a tire deteriorate with time, regardless of the condition of the tread? And an old tire poses a significant safety hazard.

Sean Kane, president of Safety Research & Strategies, Inc., says, “If you take a rubber band that’s been sitting around a long time and stretch it, you will start to see cracks in the rubber,” says Kane. That’s basically what happens to a tire. Over time, cracks in the rubber develop on the surface and inside the tire as well. This cracking can eventually cause the steel belts in the tread to separate from the rest of the tire.

For most people, old tires are not an issue. If you drive 12,000-15,000 miles annually, a tire’s tread will wear out in three to four years, well before the rubber compound does. But if you only drive 6,000 miles a year, or have a specialized car you only drive on weekends, aging tires could be an issue. The age warning also applies to spare tires and “new” tires that have never been used but are old.

How Long Does a Tire Last?
Tires need to be inspected annually after the fifth year. Many car manufacturers recommend replacing tires after five years. But, if you live in a warm or coastal climate, your tires will age more quickly, according to the NHTSA. This includes the spare, which could be ‘baked’ in the trunk of your vehicle.
