An Overview Of Acura’s Safety

Wednesday, August 24th, 2016

Acura Safety

Acura has an impressive record of integrating safety features in its vehicles. It is the conviction of the carmaker that when you own and drive any luxury car, the experience should be highly enjoyable. While its designers and engineers focus on the various exhilarating feature’s of the various vehicles, one of the top priorities of Acura has been safety for its occupants.

For instance the RDX, TLX and ILX for the model year 2017 and the RLX and MDX models for 2016 have all been accorded with 5 start ratings on the side impact tests and the font crash tests of NCAP. The last two models for 2017 are yet to be tested.  The above mentioned vehicles have also earned five-star rating in the Overall Vehicle Scores.

But such an impressive performance in the category of crash testing is not new for this carmaker. In 2009, Acura had earned the distinction of becoming the maiden luxury brand to earn the a five-star rating from NHTSA in the category of crash safety for the side impact and front crash tests for all the models.

The same year saw Acura becoming the maiden carmaker to have all its models get a designation of Top Safety Pick from the IIHS or Institute for Highway Safety.  The 2016 models of RDX, MDX, RLX and ILX have all earned the ratings of Top Safety Pick+ and this is IIHS’ highest safety rating.

The engineers in Acura have always given high preference to the safety of the vehicles. Way back in 1987 which was even less than 12 months since the company made its debut, an airbag for the driver was provided as a safety feature for its Legend Coupe. It was more than a decade ahead of the agencies making the same mandatory in the cars.

Acura’s Technological Features

Friday, August 19th, 2016

Acura ILX

Acura has created a special niche in the North American market as an up market Japanese luxury automaker which focuses extensively in providing its cars with the most innovative technologies. It has received a lot of critical acclaim for its innovations from industry bodies, independent reviewers and thumbs up from its customers.

All current Acura models use the smart entry technology which allows you to use the key fob as a remote. You won’t need to insert the key into a slot to start the vehicle. There is a pushbutton that would do it for you. The bidirectional key fob not only helps you to send a request to your car but once the system processes a request and completes the action, the fob lights up with the help of tiny LED sensors integrated into it, which conform that your request has been fulfilled. You can use it to control the power lock on your car as well as operate the power lift gate- locking and unlocking.

AcuraWatch

AcuraWatch is the list of proactive technologies that Acura offers you on its vehicles. These are usually standard on the higher trims or are part of technology, elite and premium packages. It has features like Blind spot monitoring and Cross Traffic Monitor system which give you an audible warning when it detects a car in the blind spot of your vision.

It also gives lane departure warning when you leave you leave a straight line alignment. There is also the adaptive cruise control and forward collision mitigation system which allow you to travel at a set speed and even adapt depending on the speed of the vehicle just in front of yours and also allows the brakes to operate independently if the radar detects a potential collision.

Acura Vehicles Feature One Of A Kind Technology

Monday, August 15th, 2016

Acura ILX

Acura has been associated with the design, production and marketing of high performance vehicles in the US since the mid 1980s. It is a marquee of the Japanese multinational giant Honda Motor Company and it produces luxury brands for the mother company. It is the first Japanese luxury automobile company to have been created. Acura has been known as a pioneer in the automobile industry because of its use of new technologies in its cars.

Acura was the first to introduce the legendary VTEC engine in the North American market in its midrange exotic sports car NSX and it also beat its sibling Honda in mating a six speed manual transmission system to Honda’s Type II engine in its “legendary” sports coupe Acura Legend.

Acura introduced the trademarked SH-AWD which is an all wheel drive system with torque vectoring technology in the year 2005 in RL flagship model of the company. Acura RDX was the first Honda vehicle to introduce turbocharged engines in North America, instead of naturally aspirated engines. Acura has often used its unique and patented Jewel Eye LED headlamps on many of its recent models. A second generation of the NSX flagship from Acura was launched in the year 2015 and it features sport hybrid SH-AWD all wheel drive drivetrain and a nine-speed dual clutch mated with a twin-turbocharged engine. Acura has upgraded many of its current production models and has lavishly used its innovative technologies. RDX is one car which features most of its awesome technologies and is one of the most popular luxury compact SUVs in the US currently.

Behind The Wheel Of The Acura TLX

Friday, August 12th, 2016

Acura TLX

The Acura TLX is offered with two engine choices – a 2.4-liter inline-4 engine and a 3.5-liter V6 engine. Both versions come with direct fuel injection and i-VTEC. This makes even the 2.4-liter TLX quite a fuel efficient car with good, sporty performance. The 2.4-liter engine with front-wheel drive generates 206 horsepower and 182 pound-feet of torque at 4,500 rpm. The performance abilities of the TLX 2.4L is in large part to the conventional automatic transmission torque converter featured in the 8-speed automated manual transmission. The dual-clutch design makes changing between gears swift and smooth. The torque converter helps the car move between gears quite strongly, with minimal lag.

Driving the TLX is enjoyable, with its good performance and luxurious features. The superb NVH qualities of the vehicle makes the driving experience even more pleasing. Steering is decent, although not the best since it’s a front-wheel drive. Even with Acura’s Precision All-Wheel Steer (P-AWS) system which is supposed to help in maneuvering the vehicle through controlling the direction of the rear tires, handling is not as smooth and quick as you would like. Even so, the TLX can handle turns with relative ease.

The TLX is based on the ACE (Advanced Compatibility Engineering) structure, so it is lighter than the old models it replaced. The reduced weight is noticeable in the way the car handles itself. The suspension system on the TLX includes a four-wheel independent suspension – MacPherson strut in the front and multi-link in the rear with front and rear stabilizer bar. Riding on the highway is smooth and the car is easy to control. All in all, the 2015 Acura TLX provides a comfortable, luxurious ride with a sporty performance feel.
